Our Priorities Marinell Harriman House Rabbit Society is a nonprofit organization, founded under the same Internal Revenue code as humane and anti-cruelty societies. We work with city animal shelters, and our priority is the "eleventh hour" rescue of rabbits about to be euthanized. Following rescue is our fostering program, which includes housetraining, handling, and socializing in foster homes. It also includes neutering and veterinary care. Our goal is to get all rabbits into the adoption program and back into private homes as quickly as possible.
PERMANENT SANCTUARIESNot all rabbits, however, are "people rabbits." They don't live up to human expectations (such as lap sitting), and they don't get adopted. But does that mean they deserve death? Not by our standards. Yet, because our foster homes are filled with these unadoptable rabbits, we are unable to rescue others, who may comply with human demands. To remedy this situation, we are raising funds to construct and maintain permanent sanctuaries, where our neutered "unadoptables" can live happily in compatible groups.
