University of Victoria newsletter is horrifying

Friday 13 March 2009 at 09:43 am

A description in a University of Victoria newsletter of how to kill, clean and cook the rabbits running wild on campus has animal rights groups hopping mad.

The article -- Cook up a pot of Rabbit Restoration Stew -- appeared in Essence, a newsletter put out by environmental studies students.

"Kill a nice fat UVic rabbit," wrote Abe Lloyd, a graduate student, who said he eats about one university bunny a month.

Fun Run for the Buns!

Thursday 05 March 2009 at 12:59 pm Hey runners and walkers! If you're in California, we hope you'll join us at the Sacramento HRS chapter's Run for the Buns! To find out more, visit http://www.rabbit.org/rabbit-center/events/RFTB09web.pdf!

Wild Rabbits may not need your help

Thursday 05 March 2009 at 07:19 am Many people mean well when they contact HRS after discovering an "abandoned" nest of wild rabbits. Often they wish to "rehabilitate" them with some advice from others. The reality is fewer than 10% of orphaned rabbits survive a week, and the care that people attempt to provide can be illegal, unnecessary, and potentially harmful. The best thing you can do is put the bunny right back where you found him, in the general area, as the Mom will only come back at night to call and find him. Leave the area. If injured, please contact a Wildlife Rehabilitator or rabbit vet immediately.
