"Freddie" has GI stasis

Thursday 08 March 2007 at 11:18 pm

Kudos to an alert Rabbit Center person for noticing that "Freddie" was off his food.

"Freddie" is a  little fawn-colored dwarf rabbit living in Q with his partner.  The person who surrendered him said he had a delicate GI systme and was prone to GI stasis or, worse, bloat. Today at afternoon pellet-time, he seemed uncomfortable and didn't come running, so Kimberley asked Dr. Harvey to take a look at him.  His temperature was low, he was breathing fast and he had no gut sounds, so treatment for GI stasis was started.  "Freddie" went home with Dr. Harvey to be watched overnight. I am happy to report that, as of 10 pm, he's feeling much better. He finished off a small plate of greens and decorated his cage with poops.  Dr. H will return him to the rabbit center soon if he remains stable.
