Halloween is almost here. Our neighborhood is filled with ghosts hanging in trees, spooky webs, and flying witches. With all the extra activity and decorations that holidays can bring, it is important to think about keeping your rabbit safe and out of trouble. We all know that rabbits are very curious and will try to explore any new décor you have added to the house. Here are some ideas for helping your bunny have a happy Halloween.
- Keep decorations out of bunny's reach. Many Halloween decorations have strings or webbing to make them look extra scary, but they can be dangerous if your bunny decides to eat them.
- Keep candy away from bunny areas. Bunnies have a sweet tooth, and we all know people candy is not good for bunnies. That includes the wrappers!
- Keep wires and cords from electric lights out of reach. If the cords run along the floor be sure to bunny-proof them.
- All that doorbell ringing may be stressful for your rabbit. Try to offer them a quiet area if the doorbell bothers them.
- If you are having a party, give your bunny a quiet place to be away from the people and noise. So many strangers may frighten your bunny.
- Be sure your guests are not sneaking any food or drink to your bunny. People who do not have rabbits may not realize how dangerous that could be.
- Watch for stray costume parts if you, your child, or a guest has a costume with feathers, strings, sparkles, or other bits that may fall off. Make sure that there are not pieces on the floor for your bunny to find and chew later.
- After the party, give your floor a vacuum before you let your bunny out for playtime. That will get rid of any crumbs or candy pieces that may have been dropped before your bunny finds them.
- Keep an eye on your bunny's behavior both during and after all the celebrating. Stress can sometimes result in a loss of appetite, and catching something early can be life saving for your rabbit.
