Buffalo, NY Rabbit Cruelty Case Buffalo, NY Rabbit Cruelty Case In late February, Buffalo Police and the SPCA Serving Erie County were called to respond to a case of animal cruelty involving a domestic rabbit. The rabbit's front legs had been severed and the rabbit was left on a Buffalo resident's front porch. SPCA veterinarians determined that the rabbit sustained the brutal injuries while he was still alive, and was left to die. The defendents, Peter Colon and Luis Lopez, were arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and harrassment. They await a grand jury appearance. We need polite one-page letters stressing that rabbits are companion animals, indistinguishable from dogs and cats, as the felony charge specifically applies to companion animals. We need the letters by March 17. The letters should be addressed to Frank J. Clark, Erie County District Attorney, who is the attorney in charge of the case. Please send your letters as soon as possible to: Frank J. Clark Erie County District Attorney 25 Delware Ave Buffalo, NY 14202 Fax: 716-858-7425 For more information, please go to the Erie County SPCA website: http://www.spcaec.com |
