Community Education We are being alerted by House Rabbit Society members in a number of areas as to a growing problem. Unwanted pet rabbits (often former Easter bunnies) are dumped into "natural" environments. The result is overpopulation, disease-parasitic and bacterial infection-and death. House Rabbit Society members are more knowledgeable than "casual pet owners" about domestic rabbits. The rabbits need you to educate people in their behalf. Through letters to newspapers and city administrators and notices on local bulletin boards you can urge would-be "dumpers" to think about, if nothing else, the environmental impact of turning loose unneutered animals. If your community actually wants to support a rabbit sanctuary, remind them to start with a vigorous neutering campaign.
