Watch the bunnies grow!

Yes, they are as cute as they look! These nine baby rabbits were born in the Albuquerque city shelter on January 3rd 2012. A NMHRS volunteer is fostering the babies and their mother until the spring. In just a few weeks the babies have grown, opened their eyes for the first time, developed soft and beautiful coats (ranging in color from snow white to chinchilla grey), and started taking their first tentative hops. When they're not hopping around their small house they huddle together to sleep in a ball of warmth, fur, and angelic charm. Their foster family will return the mom and babies to the Albuquerque city shelter in mid April. If you are interested in adopting a sweet bunny and accepting a 10 year commitment to a terrific pet check the city's website at www.cabq.gov/pets for more information after April 15th 2012.

If you'd like more information about the NMHRS and rabbits the links to the left will get you started. If you're already a rabbit fan and would like to adopt one of the NMHRS rabbits, volunteer to help homeless bunnies, or donate to support the society the links will help with that also. Thanks for hopping by and saying hello. Check back occasionally and watch the bunnies grow. Believe it or not they only get cuter!

We assist local animal shelters, especially Albuquerque Animal Care, with their rabbit program by

  • providing volunteers to help care for the rabbits at the shelter
  • providing educational materials to provide to rabbit adopters
  • rescuing rabbits when we have space in our foster program
  • providing training to shelter staff on rabbit care and adoptions
  • helping to publicize the rabbits at the shelter
