Welcome!

Welcome to House Rabbit Society's shelter outreach program, A Fair Share for Rabbits. The HRS Rabbit Center is committed to supporting the eleventh hour rescue of rabbits facing euthanasia.

While our Richmond Rabbit Center is limited in how much space we have to take in rabbits, we want and need to support Bay Area shelters and the rabbits in their care. There are currently 27 city, county, or private shelters in the San Francisco Bay Area that offer rabbits for adoption. Many of these shelters are inundated with unwanted rabbits at any one time, and could use help.

The Bay Area is blessed to have a number of compassionate, responsible and dedicated volunteers who are working with the local animal shelters throughout the Bay Area, advocating for and helping the rabbits in those shelters. The Fair Share Team is reaching out to these volunteers to generate publicity for and interest in the rabbits at their local shelters, and to alert the public to the needs of those rabbits. We aim to provide supplies for the shelter rabbits, provide shelters with training, support and materials, and assist however we can. We believe:

*) The more rabbits adopted from local shelters, the fewer will need emergency rescue
*) Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers at shelters are the most effective way to improve the perception of and care for rabbits
*) Shelter volunteers help save lives and make a real difference!

Adopt from your local shelter!

If you are looking to adopt a rabbit, please consider visiting your local shelter to adopt. Please visit Rabbits in Bay Area Shelters to see photos of adoptable rabbits at shelters throughout the Bay Area and to find out more about what's going on at these shelters. You can also find out about your local shelter, the rabbits and other animals available, and about their needs by visiting our regional pages, for East Bay , North Bay , San Francisco Peninsula , and South Bay regions.

Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinics!

If you've already adopted a rabbit, or are considering adopting one from a shelter that does not spay or neuter rabbits, please visit here to find locations throughout the Bay Area which offer low cost spay/neuter services for rabbits.
