House Rabbit Society is excited to announce the creation of our new shelter outreach program, called A Fair Share for Rabbits. The HRS Rabbit Center is committed to supporting the eleventh hour rescue of rabbits facing euthanasia.

While our Richmond Rabbit Center is limited in how much space we have to take in rabbits, we want and need to support Bay Area shelters and the rabbits in their care.
We have a small group of compassionate, responsible and dedicated volunteers who are working with the local animal shelters throughout the Bay Area, advocating for and helping the rabbits in those shelters. The Fair Share Team will be working closely with these volunteers to generate publicity for and interest in the rabbits at their local shelters, and to alert the public to the needs of those rabbits. We will be providing supplies for the shelter rabbits, providing shelters with training, support and materials, and assisting however we can.
Why is this an important program?
*) The more rabbits adopted from local shelters, the fewer will need emergency rescue
*) Enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers at shelters are the most effective way to improve the perception of and care for rabbits
*) Shelter volunteers help save lives and make a real difference!
If you are interested in playing a part in this new program, please contact Margo DeMello at margo@rabbit.org.

San Francisco Bay Area Shelters
There are currently 27 city, county, or private shelters in the San Francisco Bay Area that offer rabbits for adoption. Many of these shelters are inundated with unwanted rabbits at any one time, and could use your help. Please consider adopting your next rabbit from one of these shelters, fostering a rabbit for them, or volunteering at a shelter or two to help care for the rabbits.
Thank you!
