Update: June 10, 2004 Janet
and Lance - Two More Bunnies Janet and Lance are two little bunnies who were taken from the Hayward property where they were cruelly treated, one day before the confiscation of the remainder of the still-living rabbits, by Animal Control. This is their story. Janet is a tiny girl, who could teach us all a lesson in surviving adversity. She was in terrible condition when found; her ears were chewed half off, her eyes were closed with infection, and her hair was falling out in patches. A very sad state for a little bunny girl.
EBAA volunteer, Christine Morrissey, rescued Janet directly from the Hayward property on May 11, and provided a safe haven and greatly needed medical care for this sorry little girl. Janet arrived at Karen Courtemanche's home on June 10, where she will continue to receive medical treatment for an aggressive eye condition, as well as regular grooming and TLC, which little Janet so richly deserves. Foster mom Karen states," Janet is a very sweet, tiny girl. She loves her greens and all the special attention."
Lance is undoubtedly one of this
rescues worst cases. He caught Christines attention because he wasnt
walking normally. Lance had a debilitating and painful testicular tumor that prohibited a
normal stride. Lance was extremely malnourished and weak. He
had long given up on grooming himself and was covered with filthy, clumps of dead fur.
Sections of his skin were balding. Like many of the Hayward rabbits, he had many sores and
scabs. Today, Lance is much improved. The tumor was removed
during his neuter surgery. With extensive and patient grooming, proper nutrition, and
loving care from numerous volunteers, Lance is transforming into the handsome fellow he
was always meant to be. Along with Janet, Lance arrived at Karen
Courtemanches home on June 10, to once again be reunited with all of the other
rescued Hayward rabbits.
With the support of individuals who have contributed time, supplies, food, and funds, these two sweet bunnies, and the many others featured on this website, have been saved from a horrifying fate. As you can see, since being taken into HRS care, the change in these bunnies is absolutely astounding. Many thanks to each of you for your support.
