Johanna Comes a Long Way

In the early days of this rescue, three rabbits were taken from the Hayward property where they were cruelly treated. On May 22, the Hayward Shelter permitted House Rabbit Society volunteers to take Johanna, Michael, and Zorro from their custody, for medical treatment.

The three bunnies were taken immediately to the House Rabbit Society headquarters clinic in Richmond, California, where Dr.Carolynn Harvey was waiting to examine them.

Johanna had a large, unidentified

growth in her genital area.

In early June, Dr. Harvey surgically removed Johanna's growth and was pleased that it came off cleanly. The growth was sent for testing and everyone was relieved to learn it was simply a benign polyp.

Beautiful Johanna with foster mom, Karen Courtemanche. She's a happy girl now!

Foster mom, Karen Courtemanche, states "Johanna has become playful and is doing great. She dances for carrot, snuggles with her girlfriends, and is eating well. It is truly remarkable."

Zorro
and Michael are also doing very well. Zorro had a necrotic testicle which was removed during his neuter. Michael had an abscessed internal testicle, which also was removed during his neuter.  Both boys came through their surgeries without difficulty and are doing great!

Taking care of the Hayward Rescue Rabbits, in addition to the usual four to five dozen rabbits in the care of HRS' National Shelter and its fosterers, has driven the House Rabbit Society veterinary bill to over $11,000. We need your support - now - more than ever before. If you would like to donate toward the medical or care costs of these bunnies, please send a check to: HRS, 148 Broadway, Richmond, CA 94804. Attn: Hayward Rescue Fund, or click on Hayward Rabbit Donations and tell them your donation is to go to "Hayward Rabbit Rescue."
