Hayward Rabbits are Spayed/Neutered

As of Monday, June 7, the Hayward Rabbit spays and neuters were completed. It was nothing short of a logistical miracle that in just 11 days all the Hayward Rabbits were fixed. Time was of the essence; most of the females were pregnant, and preventing the litters was essential. Neutering the boys was critical as well. We were certain that the males would fight, since they were unneutered and living in such close quarters. With their hormones running on full throttle, this was a real concern.

Every surgery was performed without incident and all the rabbits are recovering well.

Many thanks to Doctors Carolynn Harvey, Carl Singer, Louisa Bynum, and Michelle Kim at VCA Pet Hospital in Oakland, and Doctor Heidi Strand at the Dublin SPCA, for their expertise and for scheduling these surgeries so quickly. Additional thanks go to the San Francisco/Marin House Rabbit Society - Save a Bunny Chapter - for arranging low-cost surgeries at the San Francisco Animal Control Clinic.

Lastly, enormous thanks and gratitude go out to the many volunteers, who on very short notice, shuttled rabbits to and from veterinary clinics throughout the Bay Area.
